Brad Lea’s Top 10 Selling Tips For Affiliate Marketers

Maybe you’ve never heard of Brad Lea, and neither had I until Evan Carmichael put out a video with Brad Lea’s Top Ten Selling Tips.

So who is Brad Lea and what are his top 10 selling tips? Check out Evan Carmichael’s video of Brad Lea’s Top Ten Tips, or see my take on them, below.

Who Is Brad Lea?

Brad Lea is a self-made entrepreneur. With over 25 years in sales & marketing Brad decided to switch into training others to sell. However, he realized that the training wasn’t sticking. So he decided to create an online training platform for himself so that he could better deliver his training without having to be there.

Once Brad started sharing his online training service with successful trainers he broke through to massive success – and LightSpeed VT, “the most interactive training system on earth” was born.

So if you haven’t heard of Brad it’s probably because he’s been more of a behind-the-scenes guy, helping successful coaches to take their training to new levels of efficiency.

Brad Lea’s Top 10 Selling Tips For Affiliate Marketers

And here are his top ten selling tips, with notes about how to adapt them to what we do – affliate marketing:

Yeah, sounds obvious. So how much have you done so far today to get sales? Why aren’t you doing more?

1. Do more

How do you break that down for affiliate marketing?

If you want to make more money as an affiliate marketer, send more targeted traffic to your offers. Track the traffic. Split test the offer page. Go out and find new traffic sources every day. Here’s my TOP recommendation for generating and tracking targeted traffic.

2. Never quit

Do. Not. Quit. Ever. Period. If you’re doing what you want to do, do whatever it takes. Don’t be like “most people” who give up as soon as things get difficult.

What if you’re broke?

Stop making that an excuse for your failure.

There are many ways you can pull in free traffic to your business until you can afford to leverage paid traffic services.

Another thing you can do is, learn a skill related to your affiliate program and start offering services for cash.

When you’re short of cash to invest, the key question is: “How much TIME am I willing to INVEST in my business?” The answer to that question is a sure sign of how important you ACTUALLY think your business is. Either it’s a priority to you or it’s not. If it is, DO IT and never quit. If it isn’t quit now rather than in six months’ time.

3. Learn to listen

If you want to be great at sales, you need to learn to listen AND to ask the right questions.

Brad Lea plays a fun game with his clients to illustrate the importance of actively listening. It goes like this:

Here’s a nickel and dime and a quarter. Now, Bob’s mum has three kids. The first one is Nicholas, the second one is Demetrius. What’s the third one’s name?

Brad Lea uses a quarter, nickel and dime to demonstrate active listening.

Did you get the answer or are you still trying to think of a name that sounds like “Quarter?” If you were listening (or reading) carefully then the answer would be obvious – “Bob!” LOL!

How does that apply to affiliate marketers? Isn’t one of the attractions of affiliate marketing that you don’t need to deal with customers at all?

Well, it depends on the kind of affiliate marketing that you’re doing.

For example, if you are running a niche-blog and earn commissions by sending traffic through to Amazon or other online stores, then it makes sense to engage with your audience so that you can more closely target your reviews and blog posts to what they are looking for.

On the other hand, if you are working with a specific affiliate program, such as SFI where you earn more as team activity increases, then it makes sense to listen to your team and find out how you can better serve them.

4. Pivot

Never quitting does NOT mean never changing or adapting to new information. That is especially true for online affiliate marketers. Programs come and go, or the programs themselves change and develop. So you need to be ready to adjust to those changes.

That’s why it makes more sense to invest in a high quality hosting service and build your own blogging platform. If a program you’ve been promoting suddenly goes offline, you have not lost everything. You still have your own platform. You can “pivot” by make some adjustments to your content and your affiliate links, and keep on blogging.

On the other hand, if you put everything into the program, if it crashes, your business crashes with it. So blog first, and modify your blog content in response to changes in the affiliate marketing scene.

5. Master Sales

This is the most important thing. Actually, “at the end of the day, sales is everything.” Drive traffic and learn how to close business when the traffic arrives.

6. Put in the Work

Putting in the work means that you’ll be uncomfortable. You need to put in the work to get stuff done, and you need to put in work to learn new skills. Get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable; train yourself in habits of mental toughness. Do the work. (Go pack to tip #2 – if you’re never going to quit, then you need to do the work. Probably MORE than you’re doing now – see tip #1.)

7. Innovate

This is what can make you stand out from the crowd in affiliate marketing. Find ways to do things differently.

For example, if you’re promoting Wealthy Affiliate why not offer to set up a complete marketing funnel for your Wealthy Affiliate referrals once they upgrade?

Sure, it takes MORE WORK to set up a marketing funnel (see Tip #1) but once you’ve created the elements (email follow up letters, squeeze page, thank you page, opt-in confirmation page) then you can install everything for your client in about 30 minutes. Then you can off follow-up support and training. Do that and you’ll separate yourself from 99.99% of your competition.

8. Take Business Seriously

This is about doing the responsible stuff that you may not want to face up to. Like learning to say NO to anything that cuts into your commitment to your business. I recommend The Power Of No by James and Claudia Azula Altucher if this is your weak point.

9. Have a Strong Why

What is your motivation? Why do you want to be a successful online affiliate marketer? The best book to help you build a strong “why” is Your One Word by our man Evan Carmichael.

10. Know What You Want

Clarity. You may have a strong “why” but you need to be able to clearly state what it is. One way to do that is to be as specific as possible. Another is to SEE it, FEEL the emotion that you’ll experience when you get it. Again, Your One Word is the one book that will help you build a strong and clear “why”.

11. BONUS – Keep Going

Evan likes to post a bonus section at the end of his videos. So here’s the bonus tip. “Keep going” means that once you’ve hit your target and become a successful online affiliate marketer, don’t rest on your laurels, but keep on developing yourself and your business. Take it to the next level, again and again.

Hope you enjoyed my take on Evan Carmichael’s video of Brad Lea’s Top Ten Selling Tips!

Now get to work!
